I had an extremely disheartening experience with Avianca Airlines during my recent trip from Brazil to Colombia. Despite following all the necessary protocols and having valid documentation, I was denied boarding on my return flight due to an unexpected requirement that was not clearly communicated beforehand.

I had traveled to Rio de Janeiro from Medellin, Colombia, for a short weekend getaway from August 18th to August 20th, 2023. The purpose of my trip was to explore Brazil and return to Colombia, where I am currently staying as a tourist. Unfortunately, my journey back turned into a nightmare.

Poor service, their system is not functioning appropriate causing misunderstanding and extra cost on baggage. Their website is very poor and límited. Their staff o Medellin such as Sofía Román was very uncapable of managing the system and passengers. Very unprofessional.

Let me start off by saying this is my first time flying with Avianca. I’ve heard horrible stories of Avianca and their services but still wanted to try it out. On July 22nd of 2023, I arrived at SAL (El Salvador International Airport) around 5:03am.

I approached the line and was proceeded to counter “19” I believe. Young light skinned short lady. 7 LBS and measured a total of 70 Inches. The young lady was about to place it on the belt after asking me to sign a waiver where “Avianca” is not responsible for any damages.

I refuse to sign something like this where I don’t get a guarantee off my box arriving in one piece. The agent immediately went to the back of the office to grab a tape measure and proceeded to measure the box.

Tengo muchas malas experiencias con su aerolínea Avianca, la atención ha sido en muchas ocasiones muy pésima! Por lo tanto yo prefiero viajar con otras aerolíneas por el mal trato al cliente especialmente en el aeropuerto. El 17 de Julio estaba supuesto a viajar con Uds pero me querían cobrar $320 por dos maletas cuando yo ya había cancelado todo para la ida y vuelta de nuestro viaje con mi esposa incluyendo dos maletas c/u.

Tuvimos que cancelar nuestro vuelo con Avianca porque no podíamos pagar los $320 por las dos maletas. En el pasado siempre viajé con Taca por décadas pero últimamente con ese customer service tan arrogante, prepotente y pésimo que tienen no deseo viajar con Uds al menos que sea una emergencia.

13 members of my family planned the trip of a lifetime to Nicaragua and were set to leave 7/18/2023 from LAX. When they arrived they were informed that the children 4 and under needed a negative covid PCR test - something the Avianca did not have on their website info when booking.

We were told to rebook "immediately" for the next day. As soon as we stepped away from the counter for the curb, a stranger approached one of our family, pushed a package into their arms and said, "This is for you".

Needless to say, the police were called, TSA got involved, and the bomb squad was called. When we finally got Avianca customer service on the phone as instructed, we were told it was "too late" and that our entire flight itinerary - nearly 9 grand worth - was canceled.

My flight was changed three times and during those changes they even changed the date of flying there and flying back. I tried getting a refund and instead of receiving help over the phone they kept redirecting me to do it on the computer.

I had to “request” permission to receive my refund; in which the only approved refund for 4 tickets instead of the 5 tickets I purchased. They had no reason as to why that happened or explanation. Instead they said I needed to open a COMPLAINT ticket with the refund department .

I felt like I was being thrown around like a ping pong at that point. They said I should have received the refund for the 4 tickets that got approved, even though I haven’t received a penny back! Customer service for Avianca is horrible!!

America Arroyo is the rudes lady attending the people entering the flight from Mexico to Panama. Se has cero tactics and she should be trained in how to perform customer service.

It’s very sad to see people like her receive her poor attitudes.

Everyone else was very educative in the process but her arrogance made the flight not a pleasant one.

This is the worst airlines I have flown. I’m an American diplomat posted in La Paz Bolivia, meaning I know the procedures the Bolivian government have in place due to the Covid-19. They require everyone flying in to fill out a form arriving at the airport, in my way to La Paz I was connecting in Panama City airport and the Avianca land crews over were so

stupid insisting that I must fill out the form electronically and show to them, I beg the two ladies and explain that I have done several times and was that way I explained above. They treated me to not let me aboard the flight if I don’t do that, the problem was it was impossible to do so electronically.

I transferred Capitol One points to Avianca and booked an airplane ticket. Several hours before the flight my reservation was cancelled without explanation and the points restored to my Avianca Lifemiles account. I requested to transfer my points back to Capital One and I was told they cannot do that.

I do not want to book my next travel with these points through Avianca because the same thing can happen to me again. I just want the points transferred back to where they came from. They said if I want to transfer it to another LIfemiles member it would be $100.

I was denied boarding an Avianca flight from Tocumen, Panama City, this February. I had a connected flight, first Bogota and my final destination was Cancun. They denied me boarding due to 2 reasons: - I didn't immediately present the printed ticket for a flight back to Europe from Mexico.

I had it (I came from Madrid to Panama and my flight back was from Ciudad de Mexico to Madrid, all on one ticket from Iberia), but I had to find it on my laptop. The Avianca guy didn't listen to me.

He took my passport and disappeared. I heard him shouting: block her entrance. He didn't want to give me my passport back. I finally managed to get it back. I wanted the guy to share his name, but he covered it and said: "my name is blah, blah, blah", he was extremely rude and disrespectful.

I want a refund for my flight for myself and my partner due to the horrible service we had for our flights.

Firstly, one of the flight crew was acting inappropriately to my girlfriend. She went to the back to ask for water and the man was being inappropriate and started winking and harassing her. This was highly uncalled for and is classed as sexual harassment. Also, that same man kept making me put my face mask on but never told anyone else to do so, there were people all around me without one on, yet he kept picking on me and I believe it’s because I have brown skin and he was racist. I called the team to upgrade my ticket and was sent a link to make the payment whilst speaking to an agent on the phone. The payment said it was approved and the agent confirmed that I would receive an updated ticket in the coming hours.

A few days later and I haven't received the ticket so I call them and they tell me that the payment had not gone through and that I would now have to pay additional fees to change my ticket. This is ridiculous as they're aware that I tried to make the payment on Friday.

I was on the phone for over 3 hours (in total) just trying to upgrade my ticket.

Avianca implemented their own security in addition tobairport security. Nobody tells you this so any water or other drinks you've purchased for your flight back go into the garbage. Once you go thru the Avianca security and you need to go to the bathroom you get to go thru the Avianca security again.

I've not experienced this with any other airline. Avianca employees are not friendly at the security area they set up We will never fly Avianca again.

Avianca Complaint: My family and I flew out from San Salvador to Washington, DC, on 1/1/23 at 9:30 AM. We had rebooked and prepaid for our flights months in advance and received confirmation. Once we arrived at check-in, we received tickets with different seats (Original: 3A, 3C, 3D, and 3K).

They are considered their largest seat option. On our printed tickets, we noticed we got assigned to seats: (27A, 27B, 27C, and 27E). We were told that we had to "reconfirm" our already previously confirmed tickets within 24HRs, so they gave our already paid seats to others.

On January 1st, 2023. My family and I were traveling back home to Washington DC from San Salvador, and while at check-in, we received printed tickets that had my family of 4 seating in seats 27A, 27B, 27C, and 27E.

When in fact, I had prebooked and prepaid for confirmed seats (3A, 3C, 3D, and 3K. We have 2 small children, and my husband is taller than average, so when booking, we were assured that those seats were the best fit for our family.

We typically travel first or business, but we were explained over the phone that Avianca did not have first or business flights to Washington DC, and San Salvador. My husband was extremely upset as this was our first poor experience with any airline we have flown on.

I wish we had the name of the ticket counter representative from Avianca that took care of my mother yesterday. However, if it helps, it was at the Miami international airport on November 29, 2022, gate J12 at 1:00 pm, and she was the only female representative at the ticker counter. My mother was taking flight A7 to Bogota, Colombia, at 2:00 pm, but initially, she was coming from Houston through United.

I hope nobody treats her or her mother the way she did mine. I requested a refund for my plane ticket which cost me around ~$1000 CAD. They claim that they approved the refund request and I should have it put back into my credit card within 30 days. Its been over 30 days and I have yet to receive it.

I have called Customer Service numerous times and every time I call the call always seems to mysteriously drop when they put me on hold to check their records. I am starting to think that they are hanging up on purpose.

They have ripped me off and I don't think I'll be getting my refund. How do I get my money back????!!!!!

From Bogota To Sao Paulo Av85. Departed 3Set2022 21:40 - 6:00. We got confused because the time changed in Colombia, so we missed the flight.

However, They didn't announce our name nor the flight number at the airport. We were seated near the gate. We had to go on the next flight on the next day. They charged us a $600 fee and made us wait for them from the airport from 22:00 to 00:30 to get our ticket.

Usually with other companies they do not have those fees. From Sao Paulo to Bogota AV248 Departed 17 set 2022 17:35 - 21:20. The flight was terrible.

I bought 2 tickets (2dbxy5) on June 11, 2022 I paid for the cancellation fees just incase, I had to cancel the 2 tickets the same day so to a airport departure and return, and till this day July 22 I have no yet received any emails and or cancellation number.

I’ve call many times regarding my refund and I keep hearing the same thing we will send you an email within 2 business days regarding your refund. Flight canceled 1 month in advance to and from our booked destination . System allows to have alternative day options, but the system only permits to chose a new day going. When I went to the avianca office , they said I had used my 1 chance to make the changes, even though the system doesn’t permit.

To make a change they want to charge an extra 300,000 peso per person, even though it’s their error and the flight they gave was cheaper than what we paid. Terrible cheating company.

I bought tickets for my mother to El Salvador, which included 1 Carry-On and 1 Checked in Bag. Whenever we went to the airport to check in her bag, They claimed that our carry-on did not qualify as a carry-on, and forced us to purchase another checked bag for $120.00. Even though the carry-on was lighter and smaller than the original checked bag!

We booked flights well in advance for the 20th of July. We received an email on the 16th saying that the flight has been moved to the 1st of August! The email gave us an option to pick alternative dates and we quickly chose the 27th (1 week later than orginal) as this was the only choice closest to the orginal date.

We are a prty of 3. Our frien (party of 5) were due to flight on the 18th of July and the same thin happened to them. They were moved to the 28th of July. anoth friedn due to leave on the 22nd (party of 2) went no problem.

We have confirmation that flights took off as normal on the 18th and 20th. We can only assume that the flights were overbooked and they move people at random. When we call them, they offer no explanation as to why and no help going forward other than…

My son had a flight to Guatemala and there was an issue with his second vaccination not being written on the vaccination card and he was not allowed to fly. The airport said we could call to change the flight and there would be no charge.

I called immediately and was on hold for an hour and no one ever answered. I called the next morning and I was told I had to pay $1600 which is the amount the flights are now. How is that changing a flight and paying the difference but I’m being charged the same amount that the flight is currently which is like I’m basically buying a new flight.

Corine the station Manager of Avianca is rude and inhumane! I was on the phone listening how she talked to my daughter a very rude way threatening her with security because she was crying.

I flew in first class on 3/23/22. Flight 520 San Salvador to Lax.

First I asked for blanket, they said they don't have any. A Child walk in with a grandmother and she was in economic class but they decide to sit in first class and asked if I want to move. I told them no.

Also I do not eat chicken and ask if they have something else and said no. I had just a bottle of water and cookies. When we arrive to Los Angeles, they could'nt open the door and stay for about 20 minutes in plane. Nobody make an annuncement.

Also my only suitcase said priority and was taking more time than supported. I'm a frecuentemente fryer but I'm thinking to Flight with a different airlines. I do not received a first class treatment.

I stayed on hold for one hour and twenty minutes to be yelled at by a customer service representative. He basically told me there was nothing I could do for a purchased ticket of $119 and a change fee of $50 because according to my complaint I missed both flights.

Also due to taxes and fees the $40 refund was all I was due. When I asked to speak to another representative because or supervisor his accent was rather thick and could not understand my options for resolution, he got abusive with his tone, interrupted me, and refused to pass me to another person.

He advised me to call the 1800 number back in the afternoon when the supervisors would be back. I was placed on hold until a supervisor came in. I don't feel like a valued customer and still need resolution for the ticket I purchased…

I bought a round trip ticket from Avianca in 2020 but the flight was cancelled because of the pandemic. I was told that I could use the ticket within 2 years without any problem. One year later and with no plans to fly to Colombia, I requested a refund.

It took me many phone calls and email but finally a refund was authorized in July 2021. Nonetheless, no refund was actually given. I was told "it is coming" but 4 months later it had not arrived. I then decided that I was going to fly to Colombia in 2022 and called to see if I could use the refund to buy a ticket and they said that "yes, I could that all I had to do was change the refund into a company credit called UATP.

I followed all the guidelines for doing that and did get a credit. Unfortunately, the credit given was not one refund…

Since yesterday when the doctor said I should not fly. after hours of hold several times disconnected. I’m on holdfor at least for 1hour now. If I hear one 1more time my computer is not working ,I’m going to scream…due to the fact you no longer can do this at the airport and 4 of us could not due it on line. he could not help.

I now have been on hold over 2 hours as the gal said she would transfer me. Yesterday I had a wonderful young man on my call but by the time all this got done the flight had just taken of and couldn’t change until it landed.

I love Avianca and tell all friends and family to use them. they will not take your number to call back in case of being disconnected

I bought tickets for my mother and my brother to travel from Washington DC to Managua Nicaragua. I submitted all the documentation required for their trip and once we got to the airport, they said that they could not travel because they had not submitted the documentation.

They sent us to another counter where a lady told us that they could not fly that morning. I explained to her that I had proof that I had sent the documentation and she asked me to wait. My mother, an 85 year old woman was standing by my side for about 30 minutes at the counter while this lady was texting on her phone and talking to other employees.

I bought two tickets to Travel to El Salvador, one on September 13,2019.for myself and the other for my wife Ana ,to travel on Sept.20,2019.Our surprise was in our return Fly, Avianca, schedule us to return making a stop in San Pedro Sula,Honduras, when I bought the two tickets in non stop flights.The Price We payed was higher because it was both departure and return Direct flights.We came back home at 6AM the following Day after we left El Salvador on Sept 28,2019.

I travel from Bogota Colombia on September 15, 2019 on Avianca flight # 8, Economy class my seat number 11C. When i arrived to my seat i notice that my seat was in front of the Emergency exit and i never told that my seat cannot be put back so i had to travel 3 hours in 1/2 with my seat straight.

I have back problems and i ask one of the flight attendant that i had a back problem and i could not sit all the way straight because my back was with pain. He told me sorry that the flight was full .

When i reserve my seat there was no notice saying those seats were like that. I was very uncountable the whole trip i payed for a one way ticket almost $400 i had the person in front of me which had his seat back that i could not even move or see a movie..

Dear Avianca: My wife and I had planned to visit Medellin, Colombia, for 15 days beginning Aug. 15 to Aug. 30. We bought tickets for two with Avianca (Booking number W7X2YK). Upon researching Medellin, we saw quite a few dire warnings about the extent of the pollution in Medellin (the worst in South America).

My wife contacted her allergist, who has been treating her for a number of years for asthma attacks, who advised her not to chance the exposure to such pollution which would trigger an asthma attack, and therefore ruin our vacation, and possibly having to return home before scheduled. Her doctor is drafting a letter explaining her condition and why she should not chance the exposure to the pollution in Medellin.

We have already cancelled our lodging reservation and am in the process…
