While shopping at the TJ Maxx, located on City line Avenue, in Philadelphia PA, an employee approached me while i was looking into the jewelry display, and asked if I were going to purchase all of my items. I explained that I would be purchasing the items in my hand, however the items on the display case were not mine.
She proceeded to walk around me, look closely at the items in my hand, then lift up, and look at the items on the display case. I feel asking me if I were going to purchase my items was unnecessary, and a form of racial profiling.
I spoke with the manager there, and asked that she provide additional training to that employee. As an African American woman, I expect to be treated with the same dignity, and respect as everyone else.
